I was recently contacted by a mom who wanted some help putting together her son’s first birthday. She said his favorite food was bananas so she wanted to work that into the theme. After some thinking, we decided a "Go Bananas", theme was in order with some jungle monkeys mixed in. It was so fun working with a different theme and trying to think of ways to incorporate bananas into everything. I used them in centerpieces and sprinkled little banana confetti everywhere I could, like on the cake topper and the tops of the water bottles. The boy’s mom made a homemade banana bread smash cake, which the birthday boy loved! For the dessert table, we had a banana bar set up with cut up bananas and a variety of different toppings. I had my husband build me the tabletop tiki hut for the banana bar and I used the thatched roof from Shindigz to finish it off. It was perfect. I rolled up pieces of kraft paper and twisted them to look like vines and used cardboard monkey cutouts from Shindigz to hang from them. I even attached a monkey noisemaker to the back of the monkeys so that whenever someone would walk by them, they would make sounds. They were the hit of the party! The photo booth area was a safari jeep with the birthday boy’s personalized name on the license plate, which the mom took home so he could play in it whenever he wanted. The older kids got to take turns with the monkey piñata and filled up their goodie bags as favors once he was busted open. It was a great birthday party with so many fun details that made everyone go bananas!
